This is a "title cover" so to speak for an upcoming fanfic that and I are co-writing. Some time ago, we started chatting, and somehow we got onto the subject of what it would be like if Dingeye and Thura, the endearingly stupid comic-relief stoat duo from "Salamandastron," got roped into looking after the Dibbuns.
From there we started getting quite detailed on what could happen, and finally Chelonianmobile suggested we co-author this story, and the opportunity was too great to pass up. We've already written quite a lot so far, though I'm not sure when we'll be finished with it. It's just going to be a one-shot, though, albeit a long one. Hopefully you'll all find it entertaining when we finally post it (I'll post a link when we do ).
Along the way, Chelonianmobile stated we needed to think of a title, and I ended up coming up with "Misadventures in Dibbunsitting," which is a reference to the movie "Adventures in Babysitting," which is a movie I have never seen. Although I have seen the cover for it, which served as inspiration for this drawing.
I know I've already drawn D&T before, but I wasn't satisfied with how they came out. Thankfully Chelonianmobile came to the rescue again when she sent me a link of an actual stoat playing. After studying that for a bit, I was able to come up with more stoat-like designs for our duo. So thanks, Chel!
Also, you may notice individual details about D&T: in my last pic, Dingeye had a scar over his left eye, whereas in this one its over his right one. I did that on purpose so it would be visible, AND because I thought it could be a funny reference to some Mel Brooks' movies like "Young Frankenstein" and "Robin Hood - Men in Tights." And yes, Thura is wearing a pink headscarf and frilly apron. Why, you might ask? Well, that's something you'll have to wait and find out when we finish the fic.
Disclaimer: Dingeye, Thura, the Dibbuns and Redwall Abbey belong to the dearly departed Brian Jacques.
Enjoy, and God bless!
Heehee, thank you! I'm not sure when we'll be able to finish this, though hopefully it won't be for too much longer. It was Chelonianmobile's idea to post it on my ff.net account; I plan on making a journal announcement about and posting a link on this pic. Just to make certain everybody knows about it.
But anyway, hopefully it won't fail to delight audiences.
Well, you'd have to read the story to understand what's going on. I'd like to explain about the apron and headscarf, but I decided 'no spoilers'.
Really? ^^ Wow, thanks so much! I really appreciate that, and I was hoping you would like this.
Heh heh, though personally I think Dingeye came out a bit too good-looking; I always imagined that both he and Thura would be 'ugly-cute' as opposed to out-and-out handsome, y'know? But oh well, maybe if and when I get more used to drawing them they'll come out that way?
I dunno, it's hard to judge musteline attractiveness through human eyes. I want to cuddle them all whatever they look like ^_^ I know what you mean, it takes a bit of practice to get the character down right sometimes.
(Reminds me, you familiar with angora ferrets? I think albino angoras are my new headcanon breed for the Pure Ferrets, they're enormous and they look like fluffy pillows.)
Not unless you're a furry. But oh well, I guess I shouldn't worry about it too much. I'll just keep drawing them until they 'come out right', y'know?
(I looked them up; they are cute, yes, even adorable, and they would be a good model for Bladd and Aragnu, but I don't know... their eyes are black, and the book very clearly states that all Pure Ferrets have red/pink eyes.)
Glad you like it ^_^
Random, but I think you'll be amused; I own the book Darkside Zodiac, which is a parodic take on astrology listing all the supposed negatives, and while I don't really believe in astrology it's fun to imagine what signs one's favourite characters would have if it worked and they existed. I peg these two as Pisces; blame-shifters, liars, escapists, self-aggrandisers, and prone to substance abuse problems if one counts Redwall's addictively delicious food as an abusable substance Plus stoats tend to be born around that time of year, so...
