The Baker's Tavern Irregulars by Kelaiah The Baker's Tavern Irregulars by Kelaiah
Yet another art trade with :iconav-marten:. This one features her ferret OC Damon Thorn, along with a group of young rats, who will be known as "The Baker's Tavern Irregulars".

This pic, however, takes place before they are known as the "Irregulars". This is when they're just a group of wanna-be-bandits being approached by a mysterious ferret with a proposistion about their desperate situation.

Here is a description of each of the young rats by Av-marten, along with a few notes of my own:

All seven of them are around eight or nine-ish, except for Halftail, who's about ten.

Halftail: (the one with his paws akimbo) male, the leader, the second tallest of the lot, missing half his tail, brown fur

Patchpaw: (the one with her paw on Halftail's arm) female, the second in command, voice of reason, gray fur

Fleabite: (the one on Halftail's other side) male, the tallest and bulkiest, most likely to jump into a fight so has some nicks and scars in his fur, reddish-brown fur

Earnotch: (the one behind Fleabite) female, Fleabite's long-standing rival (she makes a point of never agreeing with him if she can help it), the others may have little nicks in their ears but she has a noticeable slice in her left one, light brown fur

Nipclaw: (the one sitting on the log) male, a bit of a grouch at times, has a nail-biting habit when he's nervous or bored, brown fur

Scratcheye: (the one leaning against the tree) female, second smallest, something of a pessimist, has a blind right eye with a scar over it, black fur

Runt: (the little one with the great big eyes) male, the youngest, smallest, and skinniest, plucky and optimistic, light gray fur

Disclaimer: I own nothing, except the hard work that went into making this. :)

Whoa! Pretty tough and raggedy-looking bunch of rats there! :O
Apart from the little guy on the right - he's kind of cute... :aww: And seems a little shy about being naked? :XD:

*snerk* Well, you've got to keep in mind that there's nothing to *see*, so it really doesn't count. :giggle: But thanks, thanks a lot. :)

Oh.

My.

HRRRNNNNHH...I love it.

I. Love it.

Thorn's pose is PERFECT. As for the rats, they all look amazing, especially Fleabite. That's exactly how I pictured him in this scene, about to attack a ferret easily more than twice his size. And aww, Runt and Scratcheye look so cute! Halftail is awesome, Nippy is awesome, Patchpaw is awesome, THEY'RE ALL SO AWESOME.

But seriously, you have nailed Thorn thus far. I'm serious. You can't even see his face, but he looks so at ease. I think I'm now in love with my own OC. I don't care if it's wrong.

:iconspazhugplz: Thank you! I'm so glad you love it! :D:D:D:iconpineappletardplz::D:D:D

Heh heh, yeah, I think Thorn was the easiest to draw. Maybe because I'm already familar with drawing him, or maybe because I didn't have to draw his fact? :giggle: But yeah, you'll notice with Fleabite is that his clothing has the most rips and tears, just to emphasis that he's the one who fights first. :) And heh, yeah, I'm glad you like how Runt turned out (I was actually thinking of Baby Rollo when I did his eyes), though I'm surprised you find Scratcheye cute. But meh, whatever. :D:D:D

I'm glad you think this is all so awesome, and yes, you can be in love with your own OC if you wish, and yes, it is wrong, but you've already stated that you don't care anyway. ;):giggle::iconfurryhuggleplz:

Btw, something that I became curious about as I drew this: as these rats grow older, will there be any, um, romances going on? Because for some reason I imagine something happening between Halftail and Patchpaw. :giggle: But I could be wrong, I don't know. :)

And another thing, I recently purchased The Great Mouse Detective on dvd, and suddenly found myself imagingin Thorn and Russet in a situation like the bar scene from that movie (with a lovely female singing "Let Me Be Good to You",). :XD::icondragonkekeplz:

Heh heh, but yeah, anyway... well, I look forward to whatever you come up with for Rorac and Rasouk! God bless you on that! :D:D:D

I don't know, Scratcheye's one of my favorites. I just find her inherently adorable, so you could draw her with five arms and I'd still squee over her. And I did notice the extra tatters on Fleabite, thought that was a nice touch.

That's it, if I ever get a ferret I'm naming it Thorn.

I never really thought about it. However, one thing I am sure of is that Fleabite and Earnotch will most definitely have a thing when they're older. You know how children are; namecalling and worms in your hair just mean they have a crush on you. But hmm, Halftail and Patchpaw you say. I always saw them as just really strong friends, like Mal and Zoe in Firefly. or Frodo and Sam, if Sam was actually Samantha and Gandalf was a consulting detective instead of a wizard.

Oh, I love that movie! I have it on VHS. I once considered doing a fanfic that put the Sherlock characters and setting to the GMD plot. Then I realized I had no idea how to translate the whole "replace the queen with a clockwork duplicate and take over England" into the modern day and have it make sense. It's not likely I'll be using a lot of GMD inspiration for this Redwall fic, since Disney inevitably used the ever-popular Dumpy Oaf Watson and I'm... not.

Oh, goodness. Ivy the weasel used to be a dancer, so I could totally see her doing that routine... GAH! bad image! Bad image!

I'm not altogether clear on how I'm going to draw a naked fox tackling a shirtless, ripped otter and not make it all rainbowy. I'll figure something out.

Heehee, well, I suppose in some ways Scratcheye is kinda cute. I don't know, I guess I'll have to read more stuff about your Irregulars. :)

Awwww, a ferret named Thorn... ferrets are such cute little blinkers, aren't they? :giggle: Heh heh, and hey, imagine if you found a ferret that had the same fur markings as Thorn? :D:D:D

Ooooh yeah, I definately could sense a Ron/Hermione thing with Fleabite and Earnotch.:icondragonkekeplz: As for Halftail and Patchpaw, well, I don't know your OCs like you do, so any romantic vibe I get could be wrong. I actually do like the idea of them just being good friends. *snerk* But Gandalf as a consulting detective,...

Hm, that's an idea... though you could always just have it be a lookalike who undergoes plastic surgeory. And to make things interesting, you could have it so that the lookalike doesn't sound like the queen, so they have the queen be forced to make a recording of her 'presentation of her new consort', or have a recorder duplicate her voice or something like that, and have the lookalike simply mouth the words? And maybe Sherlock uses this for something humorous? :giggle: Heh, but whatever. :)

*sneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerk* If ever you post artwork of Ivy the weasel, I might just do that scene with her and Thorn and Russet, only Russet is merely bashful in her presence. :icondragonkekeplz:

*snerk* Heh heh, well, I'm sure you'll figure something out. (I would like to make a few suggestions, but I'm actually curious to see what you'll do on your own. ;):giggle:)

I just have loads and loads of characters. Hard to keep track of who's in love with whom besides the two main characters and who wants to do what. Actually, I was reading over what I have so far when I discovered that, halfway through, I had changed my mind about something I mentioned early on, but I'd forgotten to go back and change it before I went on with the story. So the characters contradict themselves and I still haven't gone back and changed it yet. Darn.

Actually, an idea I had would be that the Flaversham stand-in would be a retired CIA agent or something who knows some kind of horrible secret that Moriarty needs for his evil plan. So he could still be a toymaker so that I could use the "what would he want with a toymaker?" line, without his toymaking actually being relevant. Though, I think he'd have to be NOT a CIA agent, because in the latest Sherlock episode (came out yesterday) Sherlock gets tangled in something that leads to a CIA agents breaking into the flat and roughing up Mrs. Hudson for information. (Don't worry, she's okay. And it leads to Sherlock headbutting the guy unconscious, tying him up, duct-taping his mouth, and calling Lestrade to inform him of a burglary and to ask that he bring paramedics, because the burglar fell out of a the second-floor window. He then hangs up and proceeds to throw the guy out the window. Repeatedly.)

I should draw Ivy, and her friend Shad... I'm just not very good with dresses. She kind of looks like a weasel version of a cross between Esmeralda from Disney's Hunchback and Glendel from that one filler episode of the Redwall TV Show.

Yeah, I know how that is. I've got lots and lots of characters too, from several different story ideas, I might add. :giggle: And really? Heh, that's always annoying whenever that happens.

Hm, well, if the Flaversham stand-in can't be a CIA agent, you could always use my plastic surgeory idea and have him be a plastic surgeon? ;) Hahaha, kidding, but yeah... But WHOA, I didn't see that episode! Ah man, I would've LOVED to have seen that! GO SHERLOCK! PROTECT MRS. HUDSON! :w00t: Heh heh heh, will Thorn be doing that to any vermin that comes in a roughs up miss Rose? :evillaugh:

Yeah, I'd love to see what Ivy and Shad look like! :D:D:D

Heh heh, and I have FINALLY remembered to mention to you: you know that old version of the Sherlock Holmes series? I saw the last episode awhile back, and I have to say... that fight scene between Holmes and Moriarty was just.... augh, the *WORST* fight scene *EVER*. I mean... the worst, the cheesiest acting, the badly posed, awkward fight moves, Moriarty doing a weird little hissy thing in Holmes face... argh.:laughing::XD: Ahhh, but yeah...

Heh heh heh, will Thorn be doing that to any vermin that comes in a roughs up miss Rose?

Well he will now. I can't possibly not have that scene in some form. Though I'd have to have Pinn Turner be somehow incapacitated first.

Actually, I could totally have Flaversham-standin be a CIA agent! That way I could make him an acquaintance of the canon one, and put in a reference to the incident at the end. He's standing there all awkward because his buddy told him nasty things about Sherlock, but the guy just saved his life and his daughter's life, so he's not sure what to say. "Mr. Holmes... thank you for... um... well, not throwing me out a window." "Thank you for not assaulting my landlady."

I'm very fond of Ivy and Shad. Now, those two are definitely in love. Only, Ivy's embittered and hurt thanks to an unfaithful and abusive lover in her past, while Shad's sort of sitting there thinking, "I'm right here!"

...Yes. That fight scene. That was... awkward. And I'm sorry, it was kind of homoerotic, with the... and the... GAH. It's supposed to be an incredibly dramatic scene, but throughout the whole thing I was sort of giggling uncomfortably. I hate cringe comedy, and unintentional cringe comedy is even worse.

Btw, it wasn't the last episode. The Return of Sherlock Holmes starts with... well, the return of Sherlock Holmes, and it goes from there.

Hm, Pinn Turner somehow incapacitated... maybe he's shot with a sleeping dart, or maybe its a whole gang who come in? Or maybe he's outside fixing something and gets jumped? Just a few ideas. ;):)

*sneeeeeeeeeerk* "Thank you for not throwing me out a window." :icondragonlaugh: Haha, classic! :D:D:D:w00t:

Awwww, poor Shad! He sounds so cute. Though I already thought he was cute because he shares the same name with the otter from "The Long Patrol". :giggle::D:D:D:giggle:

Yeah. Definately cringe-worthy. Bleah. And actually, I may as well say: no matter how homoerotic your pic of Rorac and Rasouk may or may not turn out, I *know* it can *never* be as bad as Sherlock and Moriarty. :XD::rofl::laughing:

Oh really though? Great, yay! I'm so glad! :D:D:D:w00t: Hm, I wonder if the new series will have Sherlock fall to his 'death' only to reappear? Probably will, you can't have Sherlock without the whole fake death thing. :giggle:
